WARM Water WRECK Diving the NC Graveyard of the Atlantic
Overview
The Eastern Carolina Reef Associations mission is "To promote understanding of the economic and ecological benefits of Artificial Reefs in the warm clear waters of Eastern North Carolina, in order to raise money for the sinking of new Shipwrecks for the enjoyment of SCUBA Divers and Sports Fisherman along the Crystal Coast of North Carolina."
ECARA (Eastern Carolina Artificial Reef Association) is actively involved with local and NC State agencies to acquire and sink large vessels creating new habitat augmenting the more than 30 existing sites in the warm Gulfstream waters of NC.
Learn about our "If You Can't Beat'em Eat'em" Lionfish Tournament and scientific research. We are working with the local NOAA Lab to find an efficient way to commercially catch lionfish. Success with this will slow the ever expanding Lionfish problem with added benefit of creating income for the small local commercial fisherman that are slowly dying out due to catch limitations and rising expenses.
Our third front is the recreation Blackbeard's ship the "Queen Anne's Revenge" which floundered and broke up 3 mile out Beaufort Inlet. Partnering with NC State Archeology for a dive site.
