The BlackTip scooter series now includes two models: the original, compact and lightweight TRAVEL scooter, the neutral and trim TECH scooter.

The original BlackTip (now the BlackTip Travel) was designed to be a low-cost, recreational and travel scooter. To that end, it had to be as lightweight as possible and work with any and all battery packs. Trim was not possible within these design constraints. Now with many users preferring the larger packs and less concerned about ultimate portability, we can offer the fully trim BlackTip Tech for divers who are okay with a bigger scooter and limiting themselves to 9 and 12Ah packs only.

FEATURES

Safe Start

Activating the BlackTip outside of water will trigger a new feature known as ‘safe start’. The BlackTip  propeller will start in a low-power, slow-turning mode if it detects it is not in water. This helps to prevent unintended damage to your scooter or equipment while not actively diving. When the propeller detects water resistance, it will automatically switch to normal operating mode.

Batteries

The BlackTip is powered by a pair of commonly-found power tool batteries installed directly into the body. This makes the scooter easy to charge and even easier to extend the length of your dive by swapping out batteries on the fly. The BlackTip accepts 20v (USA only) or 18v DCB-format power tool batteries. These can be purchased at retailers worldwide or online via Amazon or another seller.

These batteries are generally travel friendly, as the larger capacity batteries have a shipping/travel clip that separates the battery unit into smaller cells to keep them under TSA/IATA limits.

LED Display

The BlackTip features a built-in LED display screen. The screen displays:

• Current speed setting.
• Battery level.
• Battery errors from battery depletion or voltage inconsistency.

Buoyancy

All three BlackTip models can be made neutral and/or trim with a combination of batteries and weights. Only the Tech and Exploration models can be made neutral and trim. The Travel model will always float in a nose-up trim, which will be more significant with the larger 9 and 12 Ah batteries than with the smaller 4, 5, or 6 Ah batteries. While this may surprise some experienced scooter divers, when underway it does not affect scooter handling or diver buoyancy and is not a concern for most recreational divers. Some divers have reported a preference for making their BlackTip Travel 2-3lbs negative to make it trim rather than neutral.

Travel

Your BlackTip can be taken on all commercial flights. By utilizing removable and compact power tool batteries, the BlackTip keeps within the TSA/IATA air travel limits on lithium batteries. While all three models share this feature, the added size and weight of the Tech and Exploration scooters make them less ideal for flying. For the jet-setting diver, the BlackTip Travel’s compact size combined with its weight of only 24lbs make it our most travel-friendly option!

Trigger & Speed

During normal operation in water, the BlackTip features eight speed modes. To activate the scooter, press the thumb trigger twice. The BlackTip will briefly engage ‘safe start’ mode to detect whether it is in water, then will switch to normal operation mode and start in speed 3 (known as ‘cruise speed’). Once your BlackTip is running, pressing the thumb trigger twice will accelerate the scooter by one speed, and pressing the trigger once will slow the scooter down by one speed. If you are out of water, the BlackTip will only operate in ‘safe start’ mode.

Silent Operation

Dive Xtras is constantly refining and improving our products. The BlackTip now features new drive firmware, with silent operation! Incredibly quiet and more efficient than ever! The following video shows a comparison of the original BlackTip vs the new silent version.

Lithium Power Tool Batteries

Our scooters are known for utilizing readily available power tool batteries as their power sources, so why change a good thing? These battery packs are much more travel-friendly than costly custom lithium batteries and can be purchased from hardware stores anywhere in the world. Easily combined to create a large single pack in the scooter, they have all the benefits without the negatives. Designing and building safe, reliable lithium batteries is a complicated job. We chose to leave that to the experts.

We've incorporated a vacuum leak test system directly into the CudaX's design, making it simple to test your scooter before every dive. For the professional diver or rental fleet owner, never dive again without knowing everything is sealed.

4-Bladed Propeller

Peak Performance

Optimized four-bladed propeller provided increased performance. Airfoil shaped blades for peak efficiency are also swept back, so the propeller quickly sheds kelp and other debris.

Sealed Battery & Motor Compartments

Increased Safety

Independently sealed motor and battery compartments prevent a flood in either from effecting your whole scooter. A pressure rated bulkhead separates the two and features a sealed port plug that can be removed, allowing full vacuum leak check of the whole scooter.

Master Switch

Safety Kill Switch

The CudaX features a large external power switch for easy on/off. Safely cut all power to the scooter in case of emergency, or simply turn it off for safer stowing. The magnetic design doesn’t penetrate the hull and includes a timer that automatically turns off your scooter after 20 minutes if not used.

Using power tool batteries that fall below flying and shipping restrictions makes your scooter just another bag. The CudaX also breaks down into smaller segments for easy packing.

Tech & Exploration

The CudaX is available in the Tech or the Exploration models. The CudaX Tech sports a shorter body tube with capacity for two batteries, and suits more technical dives or frequent traveling due to its lighter weight. The CudaX Exploration has a larger body tube, with room for four battery packs and double the runtime of the CudaX Tech model, for those looking for longer runtimes.

Now, for the first time ever, Dive Xtras is offering multiple color options for a scooter straight from the factory. Choose from black, blue, or orange-colored body and tail components for the look that suits you best!

Two Level Protection

A double click on the trigger is required to start scooter's motor, preventing accidental activation during transport or handling. On top of that, the CudaX's onboard computer will not allow the motor to output more than its minimal power level until it detects nothing is interfering with the prop blades.

The onboard computer monitors and controls all aspects of the scooter’s performance and displays critical info on dual screens. Critical safety information such as battery voltages and internal temperatures are continuously monitored, as well as parameters like RPM, current draw, etc... which are used in the user programable features.

We added the features divers most often add themselves. Front strap and bolt snap are integrated into the scooter, not added as an afterthought. The scooter is still trimmed and neutral with these extras included.

Double Click Speed Control

Patented simplicity

The CudaX uses Dive Xtras' patented double click speed control. The diver can simply shift between eight preset speeds with one hand by a simple double or single click, just like using a computer mouse. No need to adjust anything whilst diving with cold or gloved hands. Simply shift to the speed you need or to match your buddy.
